Happy New Year! We're back with our in-depth weekend surf report for beginner and intermediate surfers! It's been a tough start to the year waves wise for intermediate and advanced surfers with onshore winds on the west coast and flat out east. There's been some good moments for beginners at Muriwai with the wind a lot less important when you're learning.
This weekend is looking like it will have some great waves, with across shore winds Saturday and light offshore winds Sunday morning coupled in with a high tide in the morning.
Saturday 11th January
Swell - 1m - 1.4m 3 - 4ft
Wind - 11 - 15knts South turning South West
High Tide - 8.10am
Low Tide - 2.20pm
Super strong offshore wind will make everything a little bit tough on Saturday. If the wind is lighter than forecasted there could be some really good waves.
Beginners - There's been great waves for learning on the mid tide recently, I'd look to get in the water anytime from 9.30am until about 1.30pm The arvo should be really fun too just wait for the tide to be coming back in 3.30pm until dark.
Look Out!! If it's sunny and hot make sure you take down some sandals/jandals so you don't cook your feet on the sand!
Advanced Beginners - Early is the best bet for some fun high tide waves. The report says that it might be small enough to get out the back, I'm not sure though. You'll have to check it and make the call.
Look Out!! The current heading towards the rip by the rocks was pretty strong this morning, I'd expect the same tomorrow.
Intermediates - Same as advanced beginners, the high tide early or in the evening is the best bet.
Look Out!! Out the back the current is heading north.
Sunday 12th January
Surf report is accurate as of 1pm 10/1/25 and is directed at surfers not taking surf lessons with us.
